Tamariki learning tikanga

You can use the resource with tamariki or you can think about the tikanga your tamariki are learning from you while taking part.

Tarquinn involves tamariki in feeding the whānau through fishing and making a smoker to smoke ika (fish). 

In this everyday activity the tamariki are doing a lot of learning including: 

  • working together 
  • kaitiakitanga (guardianship, environmental stewardship)
  • oral language 
  • measuring 
  • kai (food) preparation 
  • tikanga 
  • whanaungatanga (sense of family connection)
