About our curriculum

He whāriki hei whakamana i te mokopuna, hei kawe i ngā wawata.

A whāriki that empowers the child and carries our aspirations.

Te Whāriki: He whāriki mātauranga mō ngā mokopuna o Aotearoa Early childhood curriculum is Aotearoa New Zealand's national early childhood curriculum. Te Whāriki holds the vision that all children are “competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging."

Te Whāriki provides a framework of principles, strands, goals and learning outcomes that foregrounds the mana of the child and the importance of respectful, reciprocal and responsive relationships. This framework provides a basis for each setting to weave a local curriculum that reflects its own distinctive character and values. Te Whāriki interprets the notion of curriculum broadly, taking it to include all the experiences, activities and events, both direct and indirect, that occur within the early childhood education setting.

In this section you will find resources about the whakapapa of Te Whāriki and resources to help you use Te Whāriki in your own setting.
